NET CORD LANDSCAPES

I make print-based installations that layer images and landscapes into visual archives that hold and organize knowledge. Net Cord Landscapes takes inspiration from traditional Indigenous cord and fishing net designs with the stinging nettles, Urtica dioica, whose fibers are used to make them. Native stinging nettles are a nutritious early spring forageable that also support surrounding plants and are home to tortoiseshell butterflies, Aglais milberti. Nets, nettles, and fishing are all integral parts of the Salmon Bay landscape and ecosystem.
